Global university rankings place AUT in New Zealand’s top three

AUT has moved up the Times Higher Education World University Rankings once again and is now placed in the 301-350 band – up from last year’s 401-450 band – whilst three other New Zealand universities have slipped.

A major factor for AUT’s ranking this year is its improved citation impact score. The score represents AUT’s global research impact. It looks at universities’ role in spreading new knowledge and ideas by capturing the average number of times a university’s published work is cited by scholars worldwide. Our score puts us ahead of all other universities in New Zealand, with a marked improvement from fifth to first place this year.

As a young university that is less than 20 years old, AUT is swiftly rising through university rankings. Not only are we ranked in the top 1.2% of universities worldwide, we have maintained our position in the world’s top 150 young universities.

AUT continues to retain the top position in the country for international outlook, which considers each institution’s proportion of international staff and students, and the extent to which their academics collaborate with international colleagues.
