Welcome to Insight magazine

It’s been another year of strong growth for AUT as we continue to evolve to serve the needs of the rapidly changing world we send our great graduates into.

Still New Zealand’s fastest growing university, last year we experienced significant improvement in the Times Higher Education Rankings – placing third in New Zealand, and in the top 1.2% of universities worldwide.

A contributor to this was our improved citation score, for which we were measured top in New Zealand. Our research is highly cited by scholars worldwide, reflecting AUT’s research leadership and relevance when it comes to knowledge generation and sharing globally.

“It’s highly encouraging to see such a strong performance from AUT this year – at less than 20 years old, it’s been a swift rise and to become a global top 350 university is hugely impressive.”

Ellie Bothwell, Global Rankings Editor at Times Higher Education

Our top position for international outlook for a New Zealand university is unchanged. As a modern university we remain committed to attracting opportunities that connect us with the world. Our staff and students come from more than 100 countries and we continuously seek international collaborators and invest in programmes that give our students global perspectives and a competitive edge.

One example of the way we connect with the world is AUT Internz, a service that not only offers New Zealand employers an easy way to recruit our students and graduates into employment, but also connects our newest graduates with meaningful but otherwise inaccessible career opportunities in the US, Canada and from 2019 also Singapore. Many of these exciting career opportunities have been provided by our alumni and industry partners.

Our physical space, too, is evolving to keep pace with our changing needs as we seek to create exceptional learning experiences. AUT’s latest state-of-the-art building in the City Campus houses the School of Engineering, Computer and Mathematical Sciences, and was unveiled in 2018. Designed with handson learning and collaborative research in mind, the practical teaching spaces also provide excellent facilities for industry to engage with our staff and students.

I hope this edition reaffirms for you the many reasons to be proud of your connection with AUT and inspires you to engage with our growing network of alumni and industry connections worldwide.
